The Dutch striker wasn’t able to help Liverpool escape a frustrating home draw against Wolves.
Cody Gakpo has promised there will be more to come from him after his underwhelming debut for Liverpool.
A fantastic World Cup campaign with Netherlands saw a host of elite sides, including Manchester United, push to sign Gakpo mid-season.
Liverpool managed to hijack the move from their arch-rivals and sign the young striker earlier this month. He made his debut for Liverpool in their 2-2 draw against Wolves in FA Cup on Saturday.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Gakpo reflected on his performance: “[It was a] really great atmosphere.
“For my own game, I think I showed some good moments.
“[But I also had] some sloppy moments. I can still improve on those points and keep working and try to help the team as much as I can.
“Of course, you learn the most when you’re playing games, so I’m looking forward [to more].”
Liverpool will need to win a rematch against Wolves to reach the next round of the FA Cup. Despite the home draw, Gakpo is happy with the Reds’ mentality during the game.
“I think we played, in phases, really good football,” the Netherlands international added.
“We didn’t score enough, so that’s a pity. But I think we showed what we could do. We can still improve on some points, [so] let’s work on that.
“I think we showed real team spirited, so that’s good. We have to go there [to Molineux] with great determination and just go for the win.”
