The dismissal appeared to be a game-changer, but China eventually got their way. Substitute Wang Shuang came off the bench to cooly slot a 74th-minute penalty kick into the bottom-left corner.

That goal was enough to seal China a 1-0 win, moving them level with second-placed Denmark on three points. They’ll face England in their Group D finale on Tuesday in Hindmarsh. Haiti, meanwhile, will take on Denmark in Perth on the same day, needing a miracle to qualify for the last-16.
