Veteran defender Giorgio Chiellini is out of contract at Juventus by the end of the season. An update has been made on the player’s future.

Giorgio Chiellini’s agent, Davide Lippi, says the veteran defender is yet to get any offer of a contract extension by Juventus.

The Italian centre-half has been at the club since 2005 and signed a one-year contract extension alongside Buffon, when his contract ran out last summer.

With the one-year contract all but over at the end of the season, it remains to be seen if Juventus have any plans to keep the 36-year-old at the club.

It comes after recent reports claimed that Juve could be willing to let Chiellini and Buffon leave this summer, in a bid to offset their wage bill.

Speaking on his client’s future in Turin, agent Davide Lippi says there is nothing on the table yet.

He said regarding Chiellini as per Sky Sport Italia: “We have been joking about these rumours”

“To date, there are no hints on the fact that he can retire. We are calm”.

“We’ll speak with the President, but there is no news to date.”

For a player who has spent virtually all his senior career at Juventus, it would be difficult to see him leave for another side. Lippi also commented on the chances of that happening.

“It is difficult to predict that he may play with another shirt. I think it’s difficult, but if he feels he can still play, why shouldn’t he do it?” he added.

“Chiellini embodies the history of Juventus. There will be time to discuss with Giorgio and the President. No other club has contacted us yet.”

“He can make the difference for 50 games in a season, but I would think twice before renouncing to a player like Giorgio, both on the pitch and in the locker room.”
