The former Gunners captain returned to London on the transfer deadline day.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will not play for Chelsea against West Ham due to a jaw injury.

The Gabonese international joined Chelsea from Barcelona in a part-swap deal with Marcos Alonso. However, the Blues cannot use him in their next league game as he awaits receiving protective gear for his jaw.

“At the moment he cannot train and we need to get him a mask to protect his jaw and then we can start from next week,” Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel told a press conference.

On Thursday, Aubameyang confirmed he had sustained a jaw injury during a violent robbery at his Barcelona house.

Upon his recovery, Aubameyang will most likely become a regular starter for the Blues. Following a short spell at Barcelona, the 33-year-old will be reunited with his former Borussia Dortmund manager.

“Hopefully he can be that good again,” Tuchel added. “We know what we get…he delivers goals and speed and work rate against the ball so it’s a big package he can bring to our group.”

Aubameyang’s arrival completed Chelsea’s first transfer window under Todd Boehly. The Blues spent £271m this summer, adding eight new players to their ranks.

Let’s see if Tuchel’s side can bounce back from their slow start to the campaign in the coming weeks.
