The Chelsea defender might have to spend a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Chelsea defender Thiago Silva could reportedly stay out of action for six weeks with a knee injury.

The 38-year-old has maintained his solid presence at the heart of Chelsea’ backline despite their underwhelming results. However, a new injury setback could see him stay sidelines for several weeks.

Silva limped off in the early stages of Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat against Tottenham on Sunday. Harry Kane landed on the Chelsea defender’s leg, forcing him to undergo scans after the match.

According to Evening Standard, the test results have shown that Silva’s MCL damage could keep him out of action for six weeks.

The Brazilian star will therefore miss several key games for Chelsea, including the second leg of their Champions League tie against Borussia Dortmund.

Chelsea published an official statement on Silva’s situation on Monday. However, the club didn’t provide an official timeframe for the defender’s return.

“Scan results from those assessments have confirmed damage to Thiago’s knee ligaments, and he will now work closely with the club’s medical department during his rehabilitation to return to action as soon as possible,” the club statement reads.

Silva’s injury is yet another blow to the Blues’ hopes of salvaging their so-far disappointing campaign. The Blues hope to claim their first victory since January 15 when they host Leeds United on Saturday.
