Thomas Tuchel’s men left it late to take all three points, finally bouncing back after two consecutive losses.
Chelsea scored twice in the final six minutes of normal time to seal a 3-1 win over Southampton at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
Chelsea took the lead inside the opening 10 minutes when academy product Trevoh Chalobah nodding home a flick-on from a corner. The hosts found the back of the net twice in the first half thereafter but were denied each time, with one goal ruled out due to offside and another due to a foul in the build-up.
James Ward-Prowse put Southampton on level terms just after the hour-mark, confidently converting from the spot. Ward-Prowse was later shown a straight red for a reckless tackle on Jorginho.
The game appeared to be heading for a stalemate, but late strikes from Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell helped the Blues get back to winning ways and overthrow Liverpool as league leaders.
