Ace Football previews the Premier League match between Chelsea and Everton, and offers betting tips, odds, line-ups, and team news.

Fourth meets fifth as Chelsea welcome an in-form Everton to Stamford Bridge for a Premier League clash on Monday night.

A single point is all that lies between the two clubs, making this an important match. Whoever wins in the English capital is guaranteed a top-four spot until Saturday at least, while a draw keeps the tide slightly in Everton’s favor considering their game in hand advantage.

The Toffees are no pushovers and have proven their might under former Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti, especially away from home. Given Chelsea’s own impressive form, however, the visitors will need to dig deep to bag a result in London.

Chelsea Form & Stats

Thomas Tuchel has enjoyed an almost flawless start to his Chelsea reign, having gone 10 games unbeaten. The German has restored the club back into a Premier League top-four spot and recently oversaw a superb 1-0 win away to Liverpool.

The Blues have kept eight clean sheets and conceded just two goals (both goals away from home) under Tuchel. The manager’s risk-free possession-based brand of football has worked wonders. Chelsea now have their own distinct style, have improved defensively, and play with more clarity.

But honing the attack may take a little longer. Chelsea have bagged 11 goals in Tuchel’s 10 games in all competitions, averaging 1.10 goals-per-game, and have only scored more than once in a match on three occasions. It’s worth pointing out, though, that six of their seven wins were to nil. So even if they do just score once on Monday, there is no reason to believe that won’t be enough.

Key Team Stats
  • Won 7 of their first 10 games and kept 8 clean sheets under new manager Thomas Tuchel (D3).
  • Won 10 of their last 14 league games on a Monday night (D2 L2).
  • Tuchel hopes to become the first Premier League manager to keep a clean sheet in each of his first 5 home games.
  • Unbeaten in their last 25 home league games against Everton (W14 D11).
  • Edouard Mendy has kept 12 clean sheets in only 22 league games.

Everton Form & Stats

Another manager making a difference is Carlo Ancelotti. Everton were 15th in the Premier League and set for a relegation battle when the Italian replaced Marco Silva on December 22, 2019. Yet, 14 months and 442 days later, they’re up in fifth-place and battling for a Champions League spot.

The Toffees have become a tougher team to beat, especially on the road this season. The Liverpool-based side have the league’s fourth-best away record, having won nine of their 13 outings (D2 L2), and recently ended their Anfield hoodoo with an emphatic 2-0 win. The aim now is to beat Chelsea in west London, something they haven’t done since November 1994.

Despite the improved form, Everton tend to not dominate possession. Especially against big clubs, having only held 28% possession in the 2-0 win over Liverpool and 29% against Manchester City last month. Ancelotti seems content to rely on his defense and for his forwards to be clinical, with 15 of the club’s 39 league goals coming from a set-piece.

Key Team Stats
  • Unbeaten in their last 9 away league games (W7 D2).
  • Won 3 of their last 4 league games against Chelsea (L1).
  • Aim to complete a first league double over Chelsea since the 1978/79 season.
  • Aim to keep 4 successive clean sheets in the league for the first time in 12 years.
  • Richarlison has scored a goal in each of his last 4 league games.
  • Carlo Ancelotti has won 2 of his 6 games against Thomas Tuchel (D2 L2).
