Chelsea have been dealt a major blow after their top-scorer in Tammy Abraham had to leave the pitch injured against Newcastle.

Tammy Abraham could be facing a spell on the sidelines after going off injured in Chelsea’s clash with Newcastle.

The England forward was handed a start after Tuchel was impressed with his performance against Barnsley in the FA Cup. However, his evening lasted only 20 minutes.

After going down with an ankle problem, Abraham – Chelsea’s top scorer this season with 12 goals – was treated on the field but could not continue and was replaced by Olivier Giroud.

The 23-year-old went in pursuit of a through ball, but the retreating Jamaal Lascelles got back to make an excellent saving tackle.

In making the challenge, Lascelles got the ball but caught Abraham with his follow-through.

The striker fell awkwardly and immediately held his ankle in pain.

He stayed down for some time before being given treatment and ultimately had to be replaced by Giroud.

The extent of the injury is not yet known but Chelsea would be hoping it’s not a long-term injury for the forward.

The absence of Abraham will hand a chance to Giroud, who came off the bench and scored the opener for Chelsea against Newcastle.
