It’s been a busy and successful week for the Blues with Carney Chukwuemeka becoming their latest signing.

Chelsea have announced the permanent signing of Carney Chukwuemeka from Aston Villa on a contract until June 2028.

The 18-year-old midfielder is the club’s second signing of the week after US goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina, also 18, who will remain at MLS club Chicago Fire on loan until the new year.

Now Chukwuemeka, who joins Thomas Tuchel’s side in a deal worth £20 million, is looking forward to challenging for silverware in west London.

“It’s been quite hectic but I couldn’t get Chelsea out of my head the last few days, so I’m just happy and relieved that it’s all done,” he told the club’s website.

“To hear myself say, ‘I play for Chelsea Football Club’ means the world to me. I’ve been a fan of Chelsea since I was young. I’m so excited and just can’t wait to get on the pitch, meet all the players and try to win games and trophies with Chelsea.”

Chukwuemeka arrives in the English capital off the back of scoring in the final of England’s European U-19 Championship triumph over Israel last month.

The midfield prospect even helped Aston Villa win the FA Youth Cup final for the first time in 19 years in 2020/21. He has made 13 appearances in the Premier League to date. Chelsea confirmed an agreement in principle for his services on Tuesday.

The Blues have now signed four players this summer in Chukwuemeka, Slonina, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Raheem Sterling. They begin their Premier League campaign away to Everton this Saturday.
