Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Carney Chukwuemeka from Aston Villa.

The England U19 international had a year left on his Villa contract.

Following a few failed attempts to keep the 18-year-old at Villa Park, the club have decided to sell him to Chelsea.

“Aston Villa and Chelsea can confirm that the clubs have reached an agreement for the permanent transfer of Carney Chukwuemeka,” A joint statement between the clubs read.

“The 18-year-old will travel to London to discuss both personal terms and undergo a medical.”

Chukwuemeka was a key player for England U19 in their European Championship triumph earlier this summer. He scored a brace in the final against Israel, completing his impressive performance in the tournament.

Several other Premier League clubs had shown interest in signing the teenager before. However, Chelsea have reportedly convinced Villa to sell him on a £20m deal.

Following a slow start to their summer transfer business, Chelsea seem to have intensified their efforts to sign new players in recent days.

Having already added Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Chukwuemeka to their ranks, the Blues are edging closer to finalise deals for Brighton’s Marc Cucurella and Chicago Fire goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina.
