The Blues are reportedly open to selling the academy graduate this winter.

Former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher has criticized Chelsea’s ownership for their reported decision to sell Conor Gallagher.

The 23-year-old has developed into a linchpin of Mauricio Pochettino’s squad this season, maintaining consistency with his impressive form. Gallagher has already been promoted to being Chelsea’s vice-captain.

However, widespread reports in the English media have claimed the Blues are looking to sell him this January to comply with Financial Fair Play rules.

During Chelsea’s 3-2 win over Luton Town on Saturday, Carragher took to X (Twitter) to react to the transfer speculations around Gallagher.

“Gallagher has been Chelsea’s best player this season along with Cole Palmer, this just shows what a mess the new ownership have made at the club. Selling an academy player because it helps with FFP,” Carragher wrote.

Tottenham have emerged as Gallagher’s main suitor as Ange Postecoglou struggles with personnel issues in midfield. James Maddison and Rodrigo Bentancur are out with injuries, while Pepe Matar Sarr is set to leave for the African Cup of Nations.

Following their narrow win over Luton Town, Chelsea will host Preston in FA Cup before meeting Middlesbrough next Tuesday.
