Right from Stamford Bridge, we bring you the player ratings for this EFL Cup fixture between Chelsea and Southampton.

Both Chelsea and Southampton progressed to this EFL Cup round of 16 fixture with the help of penalty-shootout wins against Aston Villa and Sheffield United, respectively.

The Londoners were on elite energy levels having won each of their last four games across all competitions. In the meantime, the Saints hoped to achieve something substantial from this encounter.

Chelsea controlled most of the game with 14 shots on Southamptons frame and concluding with possession of 63 per cent. The visitors were not giving up that easy either, with constant attempts to get back on the same level as the home side.

Right before the halftime whistle, Kai Havertz put the hosts in front with a header, which was set up from an Hakim Ziyech corner kick.

But, Southampton bounced back just after halftime as Che Adams tucked in a driven shot from Walker-Peters. Tonight, both goalkeepers deserved extra credits as they put up impressive displays on the field.

After the end of the 90 minutes with things levelled up, the game progressed to a penalty shootout. Despite a clinical battle from the hungry Southampton side, the Blues secured the victory.

Chelsea now reach the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup. Up next for them is a trip to Newcastle in the Premier League this weekend.
