Edinson Cavani couldn’t be happier to play for Manchester United and to emulate a former Uruguay teammate in Diego Forlan.
Cavani made a surprise move to Manchester United on transfer deadline day last Monday after leaving Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent.
The 33-year-old striker’s arrival has been widely welcomed at Old Trafford at a tough moment. The latest reports from ESPN claimed he turned down approaches from Juventus and Real Madrid in favor of United.
And now Cavani has opened up on the indirect influence that former Red Devils star Forlan had in his big decision.
“I played together with Diego for a good number of years in the national team,” he told the club’s website. “I also remember Diego when I was young, still just a kid, and Diego was already here at Manchester United.

“So, what a coincidence that now it’s my turn to come here, knowing also that Diego has spoken positively and said some nice things about me.
“But yes, Diego and I shared some great times together as part of the international set-up and you always learn loads of stuff from top-class players with vast experience.”
Forlan played for United between 2002 and 2004, scoring 17 goals in 98 appearances on route to one Premier League and FA Cup title.
Cavani also opened up on his respect for another former United star in Ander Herrera.
