Napoli missed a golden chance to leapfrog Inter in Serie A as they dropped points against the Islanders.
Napoli drew 1-1 against Cagliari in their Serie A game on Monday. The Partenopei remained in third place on the Serie A table as Victor Osimhen scored a late equalizer.
No wins at the top of the table!
Following Milan’s draw and Inter’s defeat in their matches this week, Napoli had a chance to go level on top of the Serie A table. However, they were not able to bag the three points at Sardegna Arena.
Cagliari, who are fighting to avoid relegation, surprised the guests with their several goalscoring chances in the first half. They finally broke the deadlock two minutes before the hour-mark through Gaston Pereiro.
Napoli started their efforts to get the equalizer as soon as they conceded the first goal. However, Cagliari came close to doubling their leads as the guests’ backline became more vulnerable.
It seemed Cagliari could get away with a precious victory, but a late goal from Osimhen saved a point for Napoli. The draw will keep Napoli in third place on the league table while Cagliari remain 18th.
Luciano Spalletii’s side will face Barcelona in the second leg of their last-16 Champions League tie on Thursday. They will then return to Serie A action with a battle against Lazio three days later.
