The midfielder has penned a heartfelt parting message for the forward, with the pair no longer set to be teammates.

Sergio Busquets bids farewell to “the best player in history” Lionel Messi in an emotional post on social media.

Messi and Busquets, products of Barcelona’s famed youth academy La Masia, became teammates back in 2008.

The two players quickly became a mainstay in Pep Guardiola’s side that dominated Spain as well as Europe, with the Spaniard controlling the tempo of the game from the middle of the park and the Argentine wreaking havoc for the opposition defenses.

Together, they have led the Catalan giants to an astonishing 30 major honors, including eight La Liga and three Champions League titles.

The distinguished pair will no longer be playing as teammates as Messi has departed Camp Nou after he was unable to sign a contract extension with the club.

Busquets wrote in an Instagram post: “Still trying to get used to everything and knowing how hard it will be, I can only thank you for what you’ve done for the club and for those we’ve accompanied you over these years, and specifically towards me.

“You came as a child and you’re going to be the best player in history, having made this club grow to the height it deserves and making history, individually and collectively. I can always say I played and shared many moments with you, most very good and I was lucky enough to grow up and enjoy by your side for 13 seasons.

“Beyond all this, I stay with the person and the friendship we made. I will miss you so much. I can only wish the best to you and your family because you deserve it, you will be missed.”
