Manchester United’s starlet Bruno Fernandes has opened up about the times he got on Solskjaer’s bad side.
It has been a year since Bruno Fernandes arrived in Manchester and the Portuguese star already has a lot of stories to tell. The 26-year-old had an unbelievable start to his United career with 49 goals in 54 matches. Naturally, he has earned a lot of praise from his teammates, opponents, pundits, and more importantly, his manager.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hailed the Portuguese magnifico several times, defending Bruno’s competitive personality and even comparing the midfielder to Cristiano Ronaldo. However, what we hadn’t learned so far it hasn’t all been sunshine and roses between the manager and his player. In fact, Bruno Fernandes confessed he gets told off in the same way as his teammates do.
“He has his moments, like everyone else. I think he’s been really mad at me twice. It’s not so bad, I’ve played 54 games now. During those fights he has been angry with me twice, it’s not bad, so I’m happy with that.
“But I think it’s important. Sometimes he has to be calm, other times he has to scream and yell at his players. It’s about how to get the best out of the players. For me, it works well that he is angry sometimes. I do not want to be a player no one demands anything from. I want both him and my teammates to make demands on me when I don’t do things right.”
Fernandes credits Solskjaer for his success at Manchester United.
Nevertheless, the two Red Devils have a good relationship on and off the pitch. Bruno believes that the treatment the Norwegian manager gives to his players helps them excel at what they do.
“I think everyone knows that he gives the players a lot of confidence. The conversations we had when I came here were very important to me, because he always said that I should express myself. In the beginning, he often repeated that I should express myself, be myself, and do the same as I have always done.
“Over time, he has begun to demand more and more of me, and I think it is important that I demand a lot back. Because it is a sign that we have things to improve and you must always improve.”
