Jan Breydelstadion in Belgium was the place where Paris Saint-Germain visited Brugge in the Champions League. We got player ratings.

Paris Saint-Germain’s new Champions League era started today against Brugge in Belgium with the stellar attacking trio. Mauricio Pochettino made the decision to line all three stars up on the starting eleven this evening. In an ideal world, all three of them would have scored goals with PSG winning by a large margin of goals. But this is the UEFA Champions League with all stadiums getting their crowds back after last season. Regardless of how giant a club is, playing as a visitor is always quite a challenging test.

If any bettors placed wages on Ander Herrera scoring PSG’s first goal with the attacking trio on the pitch, they got a giant payday. Kylian Mbappe served up a brilliant cross for the Spanish midfielder in the early stages of the match. Messi also sent a perfect shot to the crossbar but he didn’t do much further than that. The Argentine reserved his best moments for the second half and this gave Brugge more chances to get that equalizer. Vanaken scored after a great assist from Sobol to leave everything leveled before the break. Clearly, Mauricio Pochettino didn’t like what he saw in midfield as he made some substitutions at the start of the second half.

Mbappe picks up an injury.

The second half gave us Mauricio Pochettino making two modifications at the sound of the whistle. However, Mbappe picked up an ankle injury that prevented him from staying on the pitch. Mauro Icardi took his spot but there wasn’t a major difference with Brugge dominating the game. Youngster De Ketelaere played an impressive gave against one of the most star-studded football clubs in the world. You could say he became one of the young starlets in Europe tonight in Brugge.

Neymar was completely absent this evening and Messi wasn’t able to make a huge difference. Paris Saint-Germain slightly improved during the final 15 minutes of the match but Brugge never stopped trying to score that winning goal. It was clear that this tournament’s edition was going to be quite difficult for all clubs in the continent. We already saw major protagonists such as Manchester United or PSG suffering throughout their opening match of the tournament. We will also share the rest of tonight’s results in a tweet down below.
