After returning from international duty from Serbia, the Real Madrid frontman has contracted the coronavirus.
Real Madrid attacker Luka Jovic tested positive for COVID19 as announced by the club on Friday.
Jovic went back to the Spanish capital following his international duty with Serbia. National representation turned out to be good for the 22-year-old forward with his brace in Serbia’s 5-0 win over Russia. However, after his arrival in Spain, Los Blancos confirmed his positive result.
A statement from Madrid read: “Real Madrid informs that our player Luka Jovic has given a positive result in the Covid-19 tests carried out on Friday morning.”
It appears that Jovic will undergo self-quarantine because the club did not disclose any further information. Previously in March though, he attracted negative attention from media while he was seen breaching rules during the pandemic. The Madrid star was caught on camera outside of his house in Serbia. And instructions required him to stay indoors for a period of 28 days.
Initially, Jovic tried to escape from his mistake by saying that there were no clear instructions. Though, due to media pressure, he announced his error before international duty with Serbia.
At the time, Jovic said: “My intention was not to blame the authorities for my ignorance, I was aware that I was isolating myself, for which there is a document that proves it.
“My ignorance was that I did not know how I should behave in isolation. Once again I insist that it was because of the conditions I came from.
“Of course, I am ready to bear the consequences of my actions.”
