In a wild turn of events, FC Barcelona made a major announcement about its presidency after Josep Maria Bartomeu’s board meeting.
In what can arguably be considered the most important news of the day, FC Barcelona no longer has a president. Josep Maria Bartomeu was doing everything in his power to hold on to the position but doors kept shutting in front of his face.
The most recent update on this whole situation gave the club supporters more reasons to complain about this man. He offered a press conference in which he publicly refused to leave the position as he waited for the Catalan Government’s response to his letter. His hope was for the Generalitat to cancel the ‘Vote of no confidence’ process due to health concerns as the Covid-19 pandemic gets worse by the minute.
But there’s a general sensation that no supporter at FC Barcelona or Catalonia wants Bartomeu to remain at the club. After realizing that his attempts were not going to succeed, he called for an urgent meeting on Tuesday afternoon.
Bartomeu’s resignation alongside his entire board.
Fully knowing that the ‘Vote of no confidence’ wasn’t going to work in his favor. Josep Maria Bartomeu had no other choice but to present his resignation. It’s not only him, but his entire board of directors will step down from their positions. Effective immediately according to Sport.
After this decision, we still have to find out what is next for Bartomeu. Also, the club will get a momentary board of interim directors who will make every institutional decision from now until emergency elections take place. But for now, the overwhelming majority of Barcelona supporters are celebrating Josep Maria Bartomeu’s resignation.
No title will be as important as this new development. The former president didn’t want to go through the embarrassment of getting kicked out of the club by the associates in public. We will keep you posted on everything that happens after this monumental shift at the top of this institution.
