After the news of his possible resignation broke, Josep Maria Bartomeu spoke in public about the possibilities and his final decision.

There’s no other way to look at this, Josep Maria Bartomeu doesn’t want to relinquish power as FC Barcelona’s president. Despite the associates’ efforts to kick him out of the club, he will go to extreme lengths to remain as the chairman. At the start of Monday, he sent a letter to the Catalan Government asking for the vote to be postponed due to the pandemic.

When he got a negative response, it was reported that he would leave the club today alongside his entire board of directors. However, Bartomeu keeps stalling and he just confirmed what we all suspected. There’s no way the Barcelona president will leave his position of power without putting up a good fight.

As soon as he got a negative response from the Generalitat, he decided to speak to the press about his decision to stay. In his view, leaving the club to a board to make further decisions is the wrong decision. Bartomeu truly believes he is helping the club by staying, but the overwhelming majority of associates inside the club disagree with him.

Bartomeu never thought about resigning.

Despite getting reports of Bartomeu allegedly thinking about his resignation, he just confirmed the exact opposite via Diario Sport

“Resign? It never crossed my mind. If the Generalitat gives us a response that Camp Nou has to be the only place for the voting process, it will be there. When they respond, we will put the board together and we will discuss how to move forward. We can’t an unbiased voting process because that is what will give us more health security.

“This has been the proposal from day one, but we’ve also requested for a 15-day process in order to make it as perfect as we possibly can. If the ‘Vote of no confidence’ goes in the board’s favor, we all know that the elections will happen during March 2021.

“Leaving all decisions in the hands of a different board would be wrong. After the war, that’s exactly when the club is at the most problematic phase. The associates sent me a message to get the voting process going. It was just as it happened in the only two other times in history.”
