The Argentine star ends his legendary career in European football.
Lionel Messi has reportedly decided to join Inter Miami ahead of the next season.
Paris Saint-Germain confirmed Messi’s departure last week as the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner ended his two-year spell in Paris.
Barcelona pushed hard to secure Messi’s return to Camp Nou while the 35-year-old also had a record-breaking offer from Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal. However, a move to the MLS seems to be Messi’s final decision on his next move.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Messi will announce his decision to join Inter Miami within the next hours. The American club has won a close transfer race with Barca and Al-Hilal to secure Messi’s services for the next season.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta met Jorge Messi last week to discuss the Argentine star’s return to Camp Nou. However, the club’s financial problems eventually prevented the move from taking place.
Al Hilal, on the other, tried to persuade Messi with an astronomical offer. According to French publication FootMercato, Messi came close to accepting the Saudi side’s $1.3 billion offer. However, the World Cup winner eventually decided against continuing his career in the middle east.
ESPN claims Miami’s offer includes sponsorship deals with brands such as Apple and Adidas. Apple TV+ announced Tuesday that it has secured the rights to a four-part documentary about Messi’s career. The American company has also landed a TV rights deal with MLS.
