AC Milan goalkeeper Gigi Donnarumma will not be available to play the Milan derby for Coppa Italia.
The Rossoneri have suffered a major casualty ahead of their clash against rivals Inter Milan for the Coppa Italia quarter-finals. Last Tuesday, in the Round of 16 fixture against Torino, Gianluigi Donnarumma was sent-off for his ‘disrespectful attitude’. The goalkeeper, who was on the bench at the time, asked for a penalty in the second half. However, his words didn’t sit well with the match referee.
Although a sanction was already expected, it has now been confirmed by the Disciplinary Commission. Donnarumma has received a one-match ban, meaning he will be out of the Cup quarter-finals against Inter.
According to SPORTface.it, the officials considered the 21-year-old keeper to be guilty of two infractions. The first one included “protests against the match officials”. Additionally, Donnarumma was penalized “for having, at the 27th minute of the second half, at the time of the admonition, as a player on the bench, assumed a disrespectful attitude towards the referee.”
Stefano Pioli will now have to rely on 34-year-old Tatarusanu to keep a clean sheet once again for AC Milan.
