A poor run of results has left the Blues legend under immense pressure, and it appears the club board has finally acted.

Chelsea are set to sack Frank Lampard as manager as early as Monday following a run of poor results in west London.

Despite Sunday’s 3-1 FA Cup success over Luton Town, Chelsea have suffered an alarming dip in form. Five defeats in their last eight Premier League games (W2 D1) have seen them plummet down the standings to ninth. An 11-point gap against table-toppers Manchester United, along with an inability to extract the most out of all his big-money summer signings, has poured doubts over his future.

According to The Telegraph, Chelsea could make an announcement later on Monday. The club chiefs have reportedly told the players to not report to training until the afternoon, suggesting Lampard could discover his fate shortly.

The 41-year-old, who has another 18 months left on his contract, has sought no assurances over his future. He was confident in his ability to turn things around. But if the reports are correct, Roman Abramovich’s reputation for bearing little patience with his coaches has struck again.

Former Paris Saint-Germain manager Thomas Tuchel and ex-Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri are reportedly in contention to replace Lampard.
