(Betfair odds above – Dortmund win/Draw/Freiburg win)
Borussia Dortmund head into their second home game of the season against Freiburg on Saturday afternoon with a point to prove. Back-to-back losses have left them on the back foot. And with the international break just around the corner, they’ll want to leave on a high.
Freiburg should be an ideal platform for Lucien Favre’s side to get back on the right track. Their opponents may be five places above them in the Bundesliga standings, but the hosts have an impressive record in this fixture. In fact, they’re unbeaten in their last 18 league encounters.
Borussia Dortmund Form & Stats
Coming back from two goals down inside 32 minutes against Bayern Munich was impressive. But just as BVB looked to snatch a comeback victory, Joshua Kimmich scored to secure the DFL Super Cup for the Bavarians on Wednesday with a 3-2 win.
Not only did it cost Dortmund a first piece of silverware for the season, it condemned them to back-to-back defeats amid last weekend’s horror show against FC Augsburg.
Favre’s side have, therefore, lost three of their last five league games since the end of last season. They only have three points in the bank for this term and really need another three against Freiburg. If they hope to stand any chance of winning the Bundesliga, they must begin to consistently deliver the wins week-in and week-out.
Key Team Stats

- Undefeated in last 18 games against Freiburg in all competitions.

Freiburg Form & Stats
The visitors head to Signal Iduna Park on the back of a decent start to the campaign, bagging four points in their opening two games. Facing Dortmund, though, will be their biggest challenge to date. How they fare on Saturday could prove to be a telling point on how their season may turn out.
Although Freiburg have already overcome their fair share of tests, having overcome Stuttgart 3-2 away for their Bundesliga opener. They also claimed a hard-fought point in last weekend’s 1-1 draw against Wolfsburg.
Christian Streich’s side hope to build on last season’s strong eighth-place finish in the standings and will be in no mood to make life easy for Dortmund, despite their unfavorable head-to-head record in recent seasons.
Key Team Stats
- Haven’t beaten Dortmund since May 2010.
- Over 2.5 goals scored in last four away league games.
- Conceded two or more goals in last four away league games.
- Head coach Christian Streich has never beaten Dortmund (P15 D3 L12).
