Ahead of the 2021/22 campaign, Leonardo Bonucci has revealed Juventus’ targets and dismissed claims Cristiano Ronaldo could’ve joined PSG.
Leonardo Bonucci has backed Cristiano Ronaldo to stay and help Juventus fulfill all of their targets in 2021/22.
Massimiliano Allegri’s men head into the new season hoping to reclaim the Serie A title from Inter Milan and go a long way in the Champions League, with Ronaldo leading the charge.
The Portuguese ace has scored an impressive 101 goals in only 133 games since joining Juventus in 2018. He has helped the club win five trophies, including back-to-back Serie A titles and the Coppa Italia.
But three successive early Champions League exits, Juventus’ failed title defense last season, and the fact Ronaldo has less than a year left on his contract have poured doubts on his future.
That said, Bonucci expects his illustrious teammate to stay for this season and play a vital role for the Bianconeri.
“We want to bring home the Scudetto and go as far as possible in the Champions League,” the defender told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “Cristiano is staying with us and will help us achieve it.”
CR7 wasn’t going to join PSG anyway
Bonucci, like most football fans, was surprised to see Lionel Messi leave Barcelona after failed contract talks this summer.
The Argentine has reportedly agreed to join Paris Saint-Germain on a two-year contract worth €35 million net each season – meaning a summer move to France for Ronaldo won’t happen.
“I think that Cristiano Ronaldo would have stayed even if Messi had not gone to PSG,” Bonucci said.
“For us, it’s an added value and I’m sure that this year, more than past years, he will help us reach all of our goals.”
