The Lionel Messi transfer saga has moved up another gear as the Barcelona legend has reportedly accepted PSG’s contract offer.

Lionel Messi has reportedly accepted a contract to join Paris Saint-Germain and will travel to France shortly.

PSG approached Messi’s representatives last Thursday after Barcelona announced his exit. The Parisians sent a contract offer to his father and agent, Jorge, on Sunday morning. They had since been waiting patiently while the player and his lawyers reviewed the proposal in Catalonia.

According to Fabrizio Romano, PSG’s wait is over. Messi has ‘definitely accepted’ the club’s offer of a two-year contract until 2023, with the option to extend his stay in France by another 12 months included.

Messi will earn €35 million net each season and he intends to travel to Paris shortly to undergo a medical and complete the free transfer.

The six-time Ballon d’Or winner previously admitted during his farewell press conference in Barcelona on Sunday that PSG are indeed an option for him as well as many other clubs.

“That is one possibility, to reach those heights,” he said on a PSG move at the time.

“I’ve got nothing confirmed with anybody. I had a lot of calls, a lot of interested clubs. At the moment, nothing is closed, but we are talking about a lot of things.”
