The Bavarians have reiterated their desire to keep the Polish star for the final year of his contract.

Bayern Munich confirmed Sadio Mane’s signing from Liverpool on Wednesday. The transfer intensified speculations about Robert Lewandowski’s move away from the club.

However, Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has insisted the club wants the striker to fulfil his current contract.

“I don’t care about that,” the Bayern director responded when asked about Barcelona’s interest in Lewandowski.

“I’m expecting to see Robert in training at Sabener Strasse on July 12.”

He added: “Our position is clear: Robert has a contract until the summer of 2023.”

Salihamidzic made it clear the Bavarians have not signed Mane to cover for Lewandowski’s possible exit.

“We signed Sadio to increase the competition in our team,” he added.

“We weren’t happy with our Champions League exit against Villarreal, we want to strengthen the fight for spots in our team.

“The signing of Mane will reshuffle the cards for every attacking player. We have never thought about having to let a player go when we signed Sadio.”

Lewandowski has publicly announced he won’t sign a new deal at Bayern, asking the club to release him this summer.

However, his main suitors in the market, Barcelona, are struggling with financial issues that might prevent them from reaching an agreement with Bayern over his transfer.
