The Dutch defender ended his three-year stint at Juventus to join the Bavarians earlier this summer.
Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann has suggested Matthijs de Ligt’s fitness problems is a result of his training routines at Juventus.
The Dutchman has joined Bayern on a €67m deal ahead of the next season. Having travelled to the US for the Bavarians’ pre-season tour, De Ligt scored in his debut under Nagelsmann.
However, the German boss preferred to omit him from his side’s starting XI when they faced Manchester City on Saturday.
“I spoke to him after training and he said the session was his hardest in four years,” Nagelsmann said after his side’s 1-0 defeat against the Citizens.
“The session was hard, but it wasn’t that hard. Just normal for Dr Broich.”
Dr Holger Broich has established a reputation for his impressive work as Bayern’s head of fitness over the past few seasons. Under Nagelsmann, the German champions have tried to balance Broich’s fitness training with careful workload management.
The Bayern manager added: “De Ligt didn’t play so many minutes last season. I’ve heard it’s then not easy to stay fit in Italy.”
Juventus‘ fitness staff have come under fire for the team’s numerous injuries in recent seasons.
De Ligt made 31 Serie A appearances in his last campaign at Juventus, scoring three goals and providing an assist.
