The German champions broke their transfer record by completing a €100m move for Kane.
Werder Bremen fans held up a banner ridiculing Bayern Munich for their signing of Harry Kane during their Bundesliga fixture on Friday.
Kane had a wonderful debut at the Weserstadion, scoring a goal and providing an assist for the visitors. Bayern started the season with a 4-0 win, celebrating a new era with Kane as their target striker.
Bremen fans, however, aimed a dig at Bayern for not sticking to their long-held transfer policies. A banner from the Bremen ultras read: “No player in the world is worth 100 million euros – Uli H.”
The banner referred to an interview from Bayern Munich board member Uli Hoeness in 2017, where he said spending over €100m on a player is a waste of money.
Bayern avoided big-money signings even in their most successful eras as a European powerhouse, often relying on German talents to bolster their squad. However, in recent years they have completed a number of expensive signings.
In 2019, Bayern broke their transfer record by signing Lucas Hernandez for €80m. A €67m deal for Matthijs de Ligt was another big-money move before the club broke the bank to add Harry Kane to their ranks this summer.
Bayern will return to action with a Bundesliga game against Augsburg on Sunday.
