The Bavarians have decided to part ways with Nagelsmann after less than two years.

Joshua Kimmich has praised “outstanding” Julian Nagelsmann amid reports of his imminent sacking from Bayern Munich.

Widespread reports in German media claimed on Thursday night that Bayern have decided to part ways with the former RB Leipzig manager.

The Bavarians are yet to officially announce Nagelsmann’s sacking. However, the topic was still central to Kimmich and Hansi Flick’s press conference ahead of Germany’s upcoming friendly against Peru.

“I absolutely understand that this is a hot topic at the moment,” Kimmich told reporters. “But there was no confirmation from the club, so I can’t and won’t say much about it.

“I can only say that Julian Nagelsmann is an outstanding coach. He’s easily in my top three best coaches.

“Of course, such discussions concern you when it comes to the coaching position at your own club. But tomorrow in the game or in training today, that shouldn’t play a role. You read the news when you’re in your room, and of course such a topic concerns you.”

Flick also admitted he was caught off guard by the sacking of his successor at Bayern Munich. But he refused to comment further on the subject.

“We were very, very surprised by the headlines last night, but I don’t think Bayern Munich has commented on that yet,” the Germany boss said.

“Out of respect for Julian and Bayern, I won’t say anything on the subject during the press conference. That says it all.”
