Josip Stanisic will not play for Bayern in their upcoming Bundesliga game against Augsburg.

Bayern Munich have been dealing with a COVID-19 breakout for weeks now. Head coach Julian Nagelsmann spent almost three weeks in quarantine earlier this month due to a positive test.

Niklas Sule also tested positive before the international break. In addition to the defender, Joshua Kimmich, Jamal Musiala, and Serge Gnabry were forced to self-isolate due to close contact. The German giants must now deal with the positive COVID-19 test of another one of their defenders.

On Wednesday, the club confirmed Josip Stanisic is self-isolating at home but feels “fine”. The official statement also added that the player is fully vaccinated.

Stanisic broke through Bayern’s first team this season, playing as Benjamin Pavard’s backup. The player earned a two-year extension to his current contract that secures his stay at Bayern until 2023. The 21-year-old also made his debut for Croatia during their World Cup qualifying campaign.

Bayern Munich will face Augsburg in their next Bundesliga match on Friday. The Bavarians will then prepare for a Champions League game against Dynamo Kyiv four days later.
