The Bavarians have done ‘everything possible’ to convince their defender Alaba to extend his contract amid interest across Europe.

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is resigned to David Alaba leaving once his contract expires next summer.

The 28-year-old has spent the bulk of his career starring in the Bavarians defense, having made over 400 appearances for the club. Nine Bundesliga crowns, six DFB-Pokal cups, and two Champions League titles have all been won.

But Alaba has refused to agree on fresh terms for a contract extension in Munich as his existing deal enters its last six months. Therefore, he can begin talks with other clubs over a free summer transfer in January.

Bayern president Herbert Hainer confirmed the club withdrew a contract offer recently after the Austrian’s October 31 deadline passed.

“Bayern have done everything possible to reach an agreement,” Rummenigge confirmed to German TV show Doppelpass.

“We’ve had many conversations, but we wanted an answer from him by the end of October.

“That didn’t happen, and I don’t know if we’ll start negotiations up again. What I want to make clear is that our offer reflected how very strongly we feel about him. But he didn’t accept it.”

Reports have linked Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, Chelsea, and Manchester United with moves for Alaba.

“I don’t know anything about the rumors,” Rummenigge said on where Alaba may go next.

“He’s free to negotiate with whoever he wants from Jan. 1.”
