Allianz Arena was the place where Bayern Munich got a visit from SS Lazio in the Champions League. We have tonight’s player ratings.
After winning last season’s tournament with a perfect record, Bayern Munich wanted to defeat Lazio today in search of the double. They were coming from a smashing 1-4 victory at Olympic Stadium in Rome during the first-leg. Granted, Bayern wasn’t the same squad from the last campaign at the start of the season. Hansi Flick needed to adjust to some important exits they had during the transfer window.
After months of experiments to try out the best starting eleven, it appears the manager finally found the ideal squad to defend the title. So far, they haven’t truly found a worthy opponent but they will soon meet one. For today’s match against Lazio, they had an easy night that allowed them to rest some players during the second half. Robert Lewandowski managed to score a goal in the first half from the spot. Flick rested him during the second half in order to give some minutes to Choupo-Moting.
Bayern seal a 6-2 aggregate.
In the second half, the Bayern coach could rest some key players and gave chances to the lads. Choupo-Moting scored the second goal for the Bavarian giants after a brilliant assist from David Alaba. This practically sealed the victory for the Germans but Lazio got a consolation prize after a goal from Parolo during a set-piece.
But if we are being honest, the Italians never really had a chance. Perhaps squads such as Manchester City, PSG, Real Madrid, or Chelsea can have a shot against Bayern. But let’s not fool ourselves, the Bavarian giants are the top title contenders for the second straight season. Will they conquer the trophy again in 2021?
