Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has confirmed the club is expecting to receive official bids for Thiago Alcantara in the coming days.
Thiago Alcantara’s future has been one of the main topics this summer, ever since it’s become clear the Spaniard wants to leave Bayern Munich for new challenges.
The 29-year-old midfielder has refused to commit to fresh terms at the Allianz Arena, with Liverpool emerging as favorites to secure his signature.
Newly-crowned Premier League champions harbor a long-standing interest in the former Barcelona man.
Although no official approach has been made as of yet, Rummenigge has revealed that Bayer are expecting an offer to come in soon.
“We are expecting an offer from another club in the next few days,” he told Welt Am Sonntag.
“He told us that at the end of his career, he would like to try something new.”
Jurgen Klopp has been keeping it low profile in the market so far, with left-back Kostas Tsimikas being the club’s only acquisition this transfer window.
But, if Liverpool do manage to get a deal for Thiago over the line, Klopp’s hopes of retaining the Premier League title will receive a massive boost.
Alcantara would add a new dimension to the Reds’ midfield. His unparalleled vision and passing range would add a gentle note to Liverpool’s combative midfield set-up.
Thiago has spent seven years in Bavaria, wrapping his hands around 12 major titles, including the 2019/20 Champions League and seven Bundesliga crowns.
The reigning German champions continue to hold out for a £29million price tag.
Despite Liverpool’s reluctance to shell out such a high figure for a player with less than a year left on his contract, there’s a genuine feeling the compromise will be made before the summer was over.
