Bayern boss Hansi Flick has urged David Alaba to make the best decision for himself as his contract situation still remains uncertain.

Bayern Munich head coach Hansi Flick has said that defender David Alaba must “take responsibility” for himself as his contract saga rumbles on.

The defender’s deal is set to expire at the end of the current season and uncertainty has surrounded the player’s future of late.

Talk of Alaba leaving Bayern has been up in the air for some time, with negotiations at a standstill. Both the player and the club seek to thrash out the best deal possible for all parties involved.

Just recently, Bayern’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic revealed that the Austrian rejected an offer and tipped him to move on at the end of the current campaign.

With Alaba set to see his deal expire in June, he could move to the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, or Liverpool on a free transfer as the mentioned sides have shown interest in the player.

Flick has underlined the player’s importance to his team and told him to have a good think before coming to any conclusion.

“David should take responsibility and decide for himself what is important to him,” he told Die Welt. “David is a very fine person and a brilliant football player. He is very popular with the team and holds them together.”

Reports have claimed Bayern have no problem letting the versatile defender go but Flick insists Alaba is a key member of the Bayern setup.

“He’s a very important player,” he said. “He’s been with the club for over nine years and has been a treble winner twice during that time.”
