During an interview with Mundo Deportivo, Josep Maria Bartomeu denied he is planning on resigning as the club’s president despite the votes.
After Barcelona’s associates decided to issue a vote of ‘No Confidence’ against him, Bartomeu revealed he has no plans to step down as president. After 24 hours of the historic petition signed by more than 20 thousand Barcelona associates, the president decided to speak in public. He chose Mundo Deportivo, a club-owned newspaper to talk about many topics.
In the interview, he refused to get into any more conflicts with Leo Messi. He also revealed that Luis Suarez will remain as a Barcelona player, for now. But the most interesting topic was his possible resignation, something that many supporters expected him to do after the ‘No Confidence’ vote. However, Bartomeu made up excuses by stating he only thinks about signing new players and getting the most competitive squad for the new season. More of the same from this power-hungry president.
Resigning isn’t in Bartomeu’s plans.
From his demeanor when asked about resigning, you can tell Bartomeu still controls the club and will continue to do so for months.
“Nobody considers my resignation. For now, we will continue the validation process of those signatures and we can only keep working hard. The club doesn’t stop: we played the Gamper Trophy today and we have a lot of work to do until October 5, which is when the market closes.
“The number of signatures surprised even the people who promoted the vote of ‘No confidence’. Now we need to continue the process that the rulebook demands. The club is doing its part with transparency and by the book.
“The board keeps working as usual, we are right in the middle of a transfer window. We will try to close deals in order to have the most competitive squad we can get. The bard will talk about the votes later and validate every signature.”
