After a historic day for FC Barcelona, the club’s associates gathered a record 20.687 signature in a vote of ‘No Confidence’ against Bartomeu.

It appears president Jose Maria Bartomeu’s days are numbered at FC Barcelona. The club’s associates made a major advancement with the ‘No Confidence’ vote today after gathering a record 20.687 signatures. The documents were delivered to the club’s main offices in Barcelona before 6 pm. It took the board a short while to respond but they eventually did.

All the people who signed the petition expected the president to resign effective immediately after this historic day. However, Bartomeu has no plans to step down until March next year. Barcelona’s VP of Economics, Jordi Moix was the one who responded publicly to the petition. The club recognized the effort of all the club’s associates and announced the next steps they need to follow according to the established protocol.

What’s next for Barcelona after the vote?

Jordi Moix explained to Mundo Deportivo: “First of all, my utmost respect for this initiative from all associates throughout this process and to everyone involved. I know first hand about the difficulties and the work that this requires. I was part of this same process against president Nuñez 20 years ago.

“Therefor, my absolute respect for this giant step. Secondly, the club needs to be very thorough with this process due to its importance and we will follow the established protocol. We need to follow all the rules that include this ‘No Confidence’ voting process.

“From this moment forward, we will establish a ‘Vote of No Confidence Board’ once we made the total count of the signatures. There is a ten-day period for the counting and another one for the validation of every signature. We will establish a team for this task that the club will provide, as it’s always been.”

This means that Bartomeu is holding on to the job and he will go to extreme lengths to keep it until the month of March. However, this is a historic day for all Barcelona supporters. The people finally decided to speak up against injustice at the Catalan club.
