During a long interview, one of Barcelona’s prominent youngsters thanked Real Madrid for rejecting him when he was still a kid.

Before going to Barcelona from Las Palmas, Pedri was actually close to signing a new contract with Real Madrid. The young midfielder from the Canary Islands is considered one of the most exciting new talents that the Catalan club has. But his involvement as a Blaugrana was almost prevented by Real Madrid when he was still a youngster.

As the player says it himself, all his family has supported FC Barcelona since he was very young. However, the life of a footballer can take him through unexpected paths sometimes. A chance to play for Real Madrid presented itself when he was still very young, and he even went to some tryouts.

Fortunately for him, a climate event prevented him from showing his true potential. As snow covered the whole pitch, there wasn’t enough time for Pedri to get comfortable enough to show Los Blancos what he was capable of.

Pedri feels grateful towards Real Madrid.

During an interview with ‘El Larguero’, journalist Manu Carreño asked him if he tried out to play for Real Madrid as a youngster: “Yes, I was there for a week of training and they told me I wasn’t at the ideal level at the end of that week. I remember they took me to an office and they told me I wasn’t selected.

“After that, I was quite upset about it but it was a great motivation for me to keep working. I would only like to thank that person who rejected me because I am at the club I always wanted. Of course getting rejected hurt me because it was a great opportunity but I think everything happens for a reason.

“Thanks to not getting picked by them, I am now at the club I always loved. I’ve always been a Barcelona supporter, my family proved it with their involvement in the ‘Peña’. When I was going to train for Real Madrid, I felt strange on the first days for wearing that white jersey.”
