Barcelona have reportedly called an emergency board meeting for Monday, where they prepare to relieve Quique Setien and Eric Abidal of their duties.

A humiliating 8-2 hammering from Bayern Munich in the revamped Champions League quarter-finals means Barcelona have finished the season without a single piece of silverware for the first time in 12 years.

A series of underwhelming performances that saw the Catalans surrender the La Liga title to arch-rivals Real Madrid have culminated with Bayern battering.

Indeed, a horror night in Portugal has been the final straw, as Barcelona prepare to overhaul the management going forward.

As per the Spanish publication Diario Sport, the ‘Blaugrana’ will sever ties with head coach Quique Setien and sporting director Eric Abidal in the wake of the Estadio da Luz disaster.

Barcelona, who have found Abidal’s position at the club as untenable, are expected to dismiss the former defender on Monday as a consequence of his poor decision-making.

Additionally, Quique Setien’s days at Camp Nou are numbered, with Barca preparing to thank the under-pressure manager for his services before appointing Mauricio Pochettino as a new boss.

The Argentinean is the front-runner to become a new face in the Barcelona dugout after discussing terms with the club president Josep Maria Bartomeu earlier this week.

In a chain reaction, superstar Lionel Messi could leave the Spanish powerhouse in the coming months, with Manchester City and Inter Milan showing interest in the 33-year-old.
