Umar Sadiq is enjoying top form at Almeria, with Barcelona targeting him for a January move.

Having parted ways with Luis Suarez a year before, Barcelona signed Sergio Aguero on a free deal in the summer. However, the former Man City star’s time at Camp Nou came to an unexpected halt.

Aguero is out with a cardiac issue and will not be able to play for Barcelona for months. The club are now looking to find a replacement in the January transfer window, hoping to bolster their attacking unit.

According to Spanish source Fichajes, Barcelona are eyeing a move for Almeria striker Umar Sadiq.

The Nigerian star has maintained great form since joining the La Liga 2 side in October 2020. He has scored 29 goals and provided 13 assists in his 58 appearances for the Rojiblancos.

Almeria are currently leading the La Liga 2 table with the most number of goals scored. If the Andalusian side promote to La Liga this season, the value of Sadiq might increase significantly in the summer. This might encourage Barcelona to move for the player in the upcoming winter transfer window to avoid competition from other clubs.

Sadiq has attracted interest from several clubs, including Newcastle. In case of a bidding war, Barcelona will have a lesser chance of signing Sadiq due to their financial issues.

Newly appointed Barcelona coach Xavi is reportedly not a fan of Sevilla loanee Luuk de Jong. The club might get the Dutchman off their wage books this winter to make room for the arrival of Sadiq.
