Ousmane Dembele is struggling to reach an agreement with Barcelona over a new deal.

Since his €100-million move from Borussia Dortmund in 2017, Dembele has struggled to live up to expectations at Barcelona.

The French winger is contracted until the next summer, with the Catalans interested in keeping him at the club. The new Barca coach Xavi Hernandez mentioned Dembele as an important part of his plans to rebuild Barca’s squad.

However, the club are reluctant to sign a regular contract with Dembele due to his inconsistent fitness.

According to SPORT, Barcelona are planning to add a few clauses to the new contract that will reward Dembele based on his fitness.

The new contract includes a lower wage than expected, but the player can add to his earnings through multiple appearance and performance clauses.

According to the Spanish source, Dembele will get a bonus for featuring in every seven games. The new clauses will exempt Barcelona from paying the France international in case of injuries.

In recent weeks, Newcastle and Juventus have emerged as potential suitors for Dembele. If the Frenchman can not reach a contract agreement with Barcelona, he will most likely leave the club in the winter as they are determined to avoid a free departure.
