Memphis Depay has cast doubts on his future at Lyon saying he is uncertain if he will remain at the club for the entirety of 2019/20.

Olympique Lyon started the new season with a bang, registering a 4-1 victory over Dijon on opening Ligue 1 matchday on Friday.

Memphis Depay equalized from the spot after Aurelien Scheidler had given Dijon the lead inside the first fifteen minutes of the match. Two more goals in the space of just one minute saw Lyon go into the half-time break with a lead. Depay later added another to seal his hat-trick.

“It wasn’t the best game I’ve played but we start the season with three points, and that’s the most important thing,” the Lyon captain said after the full-time whistle, as Goal reports.

“We have to give our best to aim for the top.”

Last night match one of the many matches wherein Depay has proved to be a talismanic presence in the Lyon team. The hat-trick was three of the 57 goals he has hit so far in 139 appearances ever since arriving at the club from Manchester United back in 2017.

Recent reports have suggested that the sounds of his heroics have traveled to Camp Nou as he is wanted at FC Barcelona by new boss Ronald Koeman.

Quizzed on speculation surrounding his future, Depay replied: “I do not see the future, I do not know if I will do the full season here. I have been here for four years, I became captain.

“After you have to look at your career, there is no Champions League. At the moment I don’t know.”
