As per a recent report, we finally know a possible date for the next elections for president at FC Barcelona. It could happen quite soon.
The elections for president at FC Barcelona were supposed to take place in March before Josep Maria Bartomeu resigned. Now we have an interim board that is starting to make significant choices with no president working for the club. There is an interim president who just made a major decision in the club’s future.
Carles Tusquets offered an interview on Sport to talk about the club’s next steps. The initial conversation topic was the salary cuts that need to happen before November 5, which is the deadline for negotiations. All players and personnel need to reach an agreement if they don’t want FC Barcelona to declare bankruptcy.
If this happens, the Blaugranas would need to sell several players. In fact, the Catalan club might even be pushed to do this by next summer if they want to keep existing as one of the most powerful clubs in European football.
Elections could happen by Christmas.
During the press conference, Tusquets was very clear about the upcoming two months for FC Barcelona. He revealed the elections could happen during the week of Christmas if nothing out of the ordinary happens. We all have to remember that the times are difficult with the ongoing pandemic and the club will do as the local government requests.
The Catalonia Generalitat will set the guidelines for the voting process and search for the best way to protect the club’s associates. This initial voting process will also serve as a template for the upcoming general elections in Catalonia. If everything goes according to plan, FC Barcelona will have a new president by the start of 2021.
