The Catalans crashed out of the competition after a home defeat against Bayern Munich.
Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta has supported Xavi Hernandez to turn things around at the club after their disappointing run in the Champions League.
Barca have suffered back-to-back relegations in UCL under Xavi. Despite their decent start in La Liga, the Catalans were not able to qualify ahead of Bayern Munich and Inter in the tournament’s “Group of Death”.
Inter’s win over Viktoria Plzen had already ended Barca’s dreams of qualifying for the next round. But the Catalans weren’t able to salvage any pride in their subsequent defeat against Bayern at Camp Nou.
Iniesta, however, believes his former teammate can still guide Barca to success.
“He is a friend and he will have a remarkable career,” Iniesta said. “He is prepared, he has studied and had Barcelona as his guide.”
Asked whether he wants to follow Xavi’s footsteps and become a coach, the 38-year-old responded:
“I know that when I have to quit, it won’t be a great day,” he added. “I will think back to when my dad used to take me to play, I will regret many things.
“Then I will also think about the future, I don’t know yet if I will be a coach or a sporting director. I still don’t have clear ideas.”
