Barcelona are keen to sign two defenders from Chelsea ahead of the January transfer window.

Barcelona have made two signings since the appointment of Xavi Hernandez last month. The Catalans signed Dani Alves as a free agent before securing a deal for Manchester City’s Ferran Torres.

The transfer of Torres might solve part of Barca’s problems up front, but it will not help their shaky defence. The club are eyeing several options, but they might struggle to sign top-class players due to their financial situation. As a result, the club have shown great interest in players who will become free agents in the next summer.

According to SPORT, Barcelona are in advance talks with Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta. The Spanish source claims the pair are leaning toward a Barcelona switch.

Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez is reportedly a big fan of Christensen and has short-listed him as a transfer target. On the other hand, he is 25 years old and can at least part of his prime at Camp Nou.

Both players will be available as free agents next summer. Chelsea’s more in-demand defender Antonio Rudiger will also run out of contract. However, Barcelona cannot afford his high wage demands.

In case Rudiger leaves Chelsea, the English side will most likely intensify their efforts to extend the Barcelona-linked pair. The club are still trying hard to tie the German defender to a new deal. However, a free move to Real Madrid is still the most probable transfer for Rudiger.
