Ousmane Dembele is spending the last months of his current contract at Barcelona, with the club eyeing a renewal.

Barcelona have been negotiating for months with the representatives of Ousmane Dembele over a new deal. Spending the last year of his current contract, the Frenchman will be able to negotiate with other clubs from February.

This will increase the pressure on Barcelona, who are already dealing with severe financial issues. Manchester United and Liverpool are reportedly eyeing moves for Dembele, intending to sign him as a free agent next summer.

However, the newly appointed Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has insisted on Dembele’s importance for his side several times. The club intend to offer Dembele an injury-dependent contract, but the player leans toward staying at Barca.

According to Sky Sports journalist Matteo Moretto, Dembele is keen to stay at Barcelona to work under Xavi. The player’s agent Sissoko has delayed the negotiations to consider Premier League offers, but Dembele himself doesn’t want to leave.

Barcelona could finalize the renewal before the January transfer window as they want to avoid competition from other clubs.

Dembele displayed a convincing performance against Benfica on Tuesday. He came off the bench and created several chances for his teammates, but they had no luck in converting them. The Catalans will face Villarreal in their next La Liga game on Saturday.
