After getting eliminated from the Champions League on Wednesday night, Barcelona manager Xavi expressed his disappointment.

Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernandez was utterly disappointed following his side’s 3-0 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

This result has transferred the Catalan side to the Europa League for the next season. However, the Spaniard does not believe that his childhood club belongs to the ranks of the Europa League.

Regardless of their misery, Xavi has also accepted that Barca are not the same at the moment. And everyone will have to work hard to get back to their original self after witnessing one of the most difficult seasons so far.

In fact, the last time that Barcelona was knocked out of the Champions League from the group stage was in the 2000-01 season. During that time, Europa League was still known as the UEFA Cup.

After falling against the German giants, Xavi told Movistar: “They were better than us. This is the reality that now faces us. We’re in the Europa League. A new era starts today.”

“Barcelona don’t belong in the Europa League, they belong in the Champions League. We start again from zero.”

As Benfica beat Dynamo Kyiv in their fixture, Barcelona had to get the three points in order to progress through. But, defeating the strong Bavarian side who had beaten them 3-0 in the reverse fixture was nearly impossible for Barca.
