Barcelona presidential candidate Emili Rousaud says he will consider naming the Camp Nou in honor of Messi should he win the club’s elections.

Barcelona’s legendary stadium, the Nou Camp, could be re-named after Lionel Messi in recognition of the six-time Ballon d’Or winner. Barcelona presidential candidate Emili Rousaud says it is something he would gladly consider.

Barcelona are in the midst of a crisis at the moment and are still without a president.

After a disastrous exit from the Champions League in a humiliating 8-2 loss against Bayern Munich, they endured a difficult transfer window and were unable to get their top targets.

To make it even worse, Messi also attempted to tear up his contract with the club and leave for Manchester City for free.

While he was blocked from doing so, he could yet leave for nothing next summer.

Following all of that, club president Josep Maria Bartomeu also resigned as well.

Different candidates have been sharing their opinions on what they would do as presidents. Earlier today, we posted about Toni Freixa having his say on Neymar.

Rousaud has issued some very strong promises, including launching a bid to re-sign Neymar. and a strong act in honor of Messi.

“We will hold a referendum to change the name of the stadium to Camp Nou – Leo Messi,” he said on Thursday, via Marca.

“We’re going to sign two top players, one of them is Neymar,”

“We are working to bring him back to Barcelona… if he withdraws the lawsuit he has against the club.

“We hope to be able to announce soon the name of the other big-name player we want to bring,” he said. “It will not leave anyone indifferent. We have a direct line to the player.”
