Barcelona have confirmed goalkeeper Marc Andre Ter-Stegen will undergo surgery on his right knee ahead of next season.

It’s been a quite busy past few hours for Barcelona with major ‘changes’ set to take place at the club. Just after Setien’s dismissal, the club also announced the need for surgery with Ter Stegen.

In a disappointing season for the club, the German goalkeeper was one of the few bright spots for the Catalan giants.

However, Ter Stegen is now expecetd to receive further treatment on his right knee.

The 29-year-old has been nursing the problem for some time and Barca are now ready to take measures to get rid off the issue permanently.

“Based upon the exchange with the medical team the first team player Marc ter Stegen will do a voluntary medical intervention tomorrow on his right partellar tendon conducted by the expert Dr. Ramon Cugat.” a statement on the Barcelona website read.

“It is a proactive measure which is now done in order to prevent and prepare for the future, since the player had some irritations on the tendon earlier in the season.”

Barcelone are set to return to pre-season training next Monday and will be without their first choice goalkeeper for the start of the campaign.

The club did not put any time-frame to his return from injury but some reports claim Ter Stegen will be out of action until at least mid-October.
