Just as he’s been saying it over the years, one of Barcelona’s captains confirmed his plans to become the club’s president in the future.
FC Barcelona has a poor history with presidents over the decades, there are only a few who have done a good job. Former president Joan Laporta is the best example of how to do things right inside the club. However, there is a new figure in the club’s future who promises to deliver great results as well.
We are talking about Gerard Pique, the current defender who is currently one of the club’s captains. Since he was a child, the Catalan player grew up inside a family that was linked to FC Barcelona for generations. Now that he became one of the club’s greatest players in history, he has big plans for the time he retires.
Due to the connection he shares with the club’s supporters, Pique trusts he can someday become the president. Although the moment for him to run is still far in the future, it’s clear he could have a good chance to make it happen.
Pique’s decision to run is already taken.
During an interview with Marca, Gerard Pique revealed his plans to run for president in the future: “I’m not running in the upcoming elections because I can’t. I’m still a player and when you’re a player you can’t stand, but in the future you never know. I’m a massive Barcelona fan, as you all know.
“I’d like to help the club I love in the best way I know how, and that means being really well prepared to be president, if one day I think I can contribute something. If not I won’t put myself forward. It’s something I’ll decide in the future, it’s a dream I’ve always had, but I don’t know if it will happen in the future.”
There is no doubt that Gerard Pique’s immense pull at the club will be a great asset if he ever gets elected to become FC Barcelona’s president.
